2006 marked another sizeable financial contribution by Hansgrohe South Africa to WP Lifesaving, enabling the purchase of new and very essential lifesaving duty kits for all lifeguards on the Western Province coastline. The Western Province's Lifesaving services currently cover the South African coast from Silwerstroom to Betty's Bay. Each season, one basic kit is issued to individual members and, as it is worn every weekend for 6 months, and often every day during peak periods, it undergoes considerable wear from the elements and therefore needs replacing seasonally. WP Lifesaving is based on volunteerism, with new lifeguards being recruited and trained every season. Between 100 and 200 lifeguards qualify every six months and must be kitted out before they can stand duty. A basic duty kit consists of a long-sleeve shirt, shorts, hats or peaks and where possible jackets. The kit is a vibrant red and yellow with "Lifeguard" printed on the front along with the WPL logo. Hansgrohe's logo will now also appear on the back of the duty kit. "We were happy to answer the call for support", says Hansgrohe South Africa’s Managing Director, Anthony Mederer, "and we're really very proud to be associated with all the lifeguards out there who are so passionate about making our Cape beaches safe." Hansgrohe South Africa supports WP Lifesaving in its aim to make the beaches safe places to be and is proud to assist in supplying basic requirements that will positively impact on the beautiful coasts across the Western Province.
