As pioneers in grey-water recycling, Hansgrohe has always placed great importance on developing new approaches to the responsible, sustainable use of valuable resources like water and energy. The water recycling specialists from the Hansgrohe subsidiary, Pontos GmbH, used their experience and insights gained from ongoing research and optimization work to develop a new generation of compact equipment with a water treatment capacity of 2,000 liters per day. Available from May 2010, the new Pontos AquaCycle 2500 generation is a proven method of grey-water recycling which has now become twice as effective.
The new the Pontos AquaCycle 2500 combines rainwater utilization equipment which generates a further water-saving effect: if the water storage level drops below a certain point, rainwater will be added instead of potable water, therefore ensuring continued availability of services such as flushing toilets. A double effect is also achieved by utilizing the heat energy present in the grey water, eliminating the loss of substantial amounts of heat energy carried in warm waste water from showers and baths that would normally go down the drain.
This size plant can also cover the non-drinking water requirements of approximately 30 to 60 people, which makes it suitable for use in multi-dwelling buildings, apartment blocks, small-scale resorts and hotels. The waste water from showers and baths produced is treated and recycled in the Pontos AquaCycle systems using a patented process based on purely mechanical and biological methods, without chemical additives.
This key combination of heat recovery and grey-water recycling goes beyond contributing to the ecologically and economically sustainable use of the resource water: it also reduces the amount of energy required to heat water, and this in turn cuts down on CO2 emissions. The twin benefits (savings in drinking water and energy recovery) result in lower water and sewage rates as well as reducing energy costs.
In addition to these new technological options, the design of the new Pontos AquaCycle 2500 system focuses even more strongly on suitability for practical applications and ease of use. Three compact 800-litre plastic tanks are the basic elements on which the new system is based. The recycling process can also be programmed to be started at the most relevant time and with the help of programmed standard profiles, the recycling performance can also be adapted to the different requirements of hotels, sport facilities or students housing.
The Pontos AquaCycle 2500 system is fitted with a user-friendly control unit with self-test function. The supplied interface allows it to be integrated into a central building services control unit, so that vital parts of the Pontos plant can be monitored efficiently as part of the overall monitoring of building services.
Thanks to Hansgrohe being at the forefront of sustainable technology, consumers have the option to make even more efficient use of water and energy resources and install the Pontos grey-water recycling systems to experience twice the efficiency for the future.
